🌟 Recommendation Details

Rez Ball is the story of an Ojibwe highschool basketball player named Tre Bun who dreams of following in his older brother Jaxon's footsteps of being a star player and ultimately making it to the NBA. However, Tre is haunted by the events of an accident that killed his brother, leaving him feeling unfulfilled and doubtful at school and on the court. Tre knows that if he ever wants to go pro, he will have to overcome these feelings of doubt and fill his brother's shoes in order to take his reservation's highschool to state level games and win. I recommend this book because it offers great insight on the modern life of a native teenager on an American reservation. It is common knowledge that reservations are generally less privileged areas, so the highlights of Tre's hardships and challenges throughout this book shows the reader the tireless amount of work and effort Tre put in as a "rez" basketball player. This books includes themes of loss, grief, self-confidence, and even love, so I highly recommend this coming of age story to any young reader.
