📖 How to Win a Slime War

How to Win a Slime War is the story of Alex, who has just moved to Sacramento with his dad to help with his family's struggling Filipino market. Alex discovers a new hobby of slime making at school and is encouraged by his friends to sell his sparkly, soft creations, however, as the new kid on the block, his new slime business now competes with that of another girl. The two agree to a slime-off in which the winner will get to be the only slime seller at school. Alongside his new school hardships, Alex's dad disapproves of his affinity for slime making, deeming it as "too girly", so his dad forces Alex to join the soccer team. Now, not only does Alex have to try to win the slime-war to continue his hobby, but Alex now has to survive sports, something he has disliked for a long time. I recommend this book because it offers a cultural perspective into Alex's life while also having a fun storyline about slime, the substance that took the internet by storm in the early 2010s. This book has many layers on how school, extracurriculars, and social life can heavily burden and affect a student's mental well-being. Moreover, the book is easy to understand with a very wholesome plot.
