🌟 Recommendation Details

Last book review I recommended Allegiant, the last book in Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy. I realized that nobody had recommended Insurgent as well, so here I am doing it. Insurgent is the second book in the Divergent trilogy. It follows the story of what happened after a simulation serum took place. For context, Beatrice (Tris) Prior lives in a futuristic Chicago, where society is divided into five factions: Candor, the honest; Dauntless, the brave; Abnegation, the selfless; Amity, the peaceful; and Erudite, the intelligent. While Tris was born an Abnegation, she chose to join the Dauntless when she was 16. There she met Four, her instructor, who taught her all she needed to know in order to survive initiation and become accepted as Dauntless. Fast forward to the day Tris takes an official test to become Dauntless. She, along with the other Dauntless initiates, are injected with a serum to face their fears. Unlike the others, Tris is Divergent — meaning that she not only has traits for one faction, but has traits for three. This enables Tris to manipulate her fear landscapes. After Tris and the others pass through their fear landscapes, they are injected with a "safe serum" — a serum that helps track them if they ever become lost. (It even sounds fake.) So one night, Tris wakes up to see her friends and all the other Dauntless initiates wake up like robots. They get guns and line up on trains in a robotic movement, like someone is controlling them. Tris hurriedly pieces the puzzles together and figures out that somebody is trying to take control of them and destroy the other factions. She, along with Four (who she found out that "Tobias" was his real name), work together to discover that the Erudite were acting in collusion with the Dauntless. Together, Tobias and Tris destroy their plans — but a secret motive of the Erudite and Dauntless were to discover all Divergent people and kill them to prevent riots from spreading. Insurgent delves into what happens after all of this. It shows Tris's moral sides — multiple times, she sacrifices herself for others, and one day, as an ultimatum, Jeanine, the leader of Erudite, gives Tris two options: either she can take herself to Erudite headquarters, without telling anybody, and let the Erudite experiment on her Divergent brain, or Jeanine would take control of hidden serum traces in no-Divergent people and force them to kill themselves. I recommend this book because it is such a thriller to read. You'll be left wondering: would I choose the same things Tris did? And if I did, would I regret it?
