You've probably not heard of the winter solstice; after all, it sounds like a strange word. Winter solstice is the shortest day of the year, or the day that there is the least sunlight. This is because half of the planet is farther from the sun than any other day of the year. In addition to that, do you know that it is also a day of celebrations? In this book, a group of people from many places gathered to celebrate the winter solstice. They celebrated by each grabbing a firewood log, making a wish, and then putting it in a big pile. When every person made a wish, they burnt the logs. Around the fire, they sat in a circle, told stories and sang songs. The book also showed how other cultures celebrated, and about what the winter solstice meant to them. I will definitely recommend this book because of its poetic storytelling structure, and its beautiful art style. The book is also fitting, as January is also a winter month.
