Craig Chin never felt like he fitted in. He was born in Chinatown, San Francisco, then later moved to Concepcion, California. There, the kids ridiculed him for his size. However, his father believed that sports was his path to success. If he could just become the "American sports hero," then he would be able to fit in with the others. His neighbors labeled him a "white demon" since he was too Chinese to be an American yet too American to be Chinese. This all changes when he meets "Uncle" Quail, who, with his sensitivity and thoughtful insights, allows for Chin to finally find himself through all of the negativity he faced. This book addresses the struggles and challenges that second generation Asian immigrants had to face in America. Trying to fit into the cultural norms takes too much effort, and most times, people still judge no matter what you do.
