At a little girl's birthday party, she says she hates everyone. She doesn't like people singing, laughing, looking at her, not looking at her, hating everything. Well, she says she does. But deep inside, her hate is a form of fear. She is afraid people won't like her or won't pay attention now that she has a baby sibling who gets a lot of attention. Looking deeper, she realizes her fear and hate stems from her love for her parents and everyone. Somehow, even when she hates her baby sibling, at the same time she loves them. I recommend this book because of its deep morals about the hate-love relationship between her family, one that only family can have. Another reason for this recommendation is the almost childlike illustrations that further help drive the moral of the story.
