🌟 Recommendation Details

I Kick and I Fly takes place in Bihar, Indian, and follows the story of a young, 14-year-old girl named Heera who is at risk of being sold into the sex trade by her father to pay off debts. Heera's family can't afford to buy food, meaning Heera's three siblings often go hungry, and they couldn't buy walls for the hut they lived in. To make matters worse, Heera's mother was the only parent that could actually work, since all Heera's father did was buy liquor and go gambling with their hard-earned money. School is the only place where Heera has access to meals, but there, she is bullied and made fun of for living in the red-light zone. Unfortunately, when Heera does get bullied one of these days, she fights back, breaking her bully's tooth and getting herself kicked out of school. Heera knows that her chances of getting sold into the sex trade are even higher now, especially since she can't go to school, but she refuses to give up and keeps looking for ways to get back into school. Finally, she decides to approach the hostel owner, called Rini Di, to get her back into school and teach her kung fu. Rini Di takes pity on her, and manages to convince her parents to let her learn kung fu and get back into school. Her father, unfortunately, is not so easily convinced, but after Rini Di gets their family funds to afford food and shelter, he lets Heera go. Grateful for her parents' permission, Heera decides to try her best in both school and kung fu. She had never been the best at school, but she studies harder than she ever did and practices kung fu constantly. Through hard work and dedication, Heera digs herself out of the pit that fate had thrown her in. I Kick and I Fly is an inspiring story about how one can escape their fate through enough work. Even though many of the women around Heera try to convince her that she can't escape being sold into the sex trade like many of her friends, she still tries. For its hopefulness and realism, I recommend I Kick and I Fly as a heartwarming book full of diligence.
