In Powerless by Lauren Roberts, people called Elites have special powers given to them by a sickness called the Plague. However, those who didn't get the powers are called Ordinaries. When the king decided that all the Ordinaries should be banished in order to protect the Elites, becoming an Ordinary could mean death. Paedyn Gray, an Ordinary, has been stealing and thieving since she was little. Once, her father taught her how to disguise herself as an Elite so she could stay alive. But her father isn't with her anymore and the Elites only get more suspicious, day after day. One day, Paedyn accidentally saves a prince of Ilya. Astounded by her so-called "power", she gets placed into the Purging Trials, a contest meant to show off the powers of the Elites. The problem is, Paedyn doesn't have any powers. Even if the Trials don't kill her, the princes and king might. I recommend this book because it is full of danger at every page, secrets whispered, and forbidden romance. It is an easy and exciting read for people of all ages.
