Fighting Words is an empowering book following the story about two sisters who escape from an abusive stepfather that had sexually abused them. Della and Suki, the sisters aged 10 and 16 respectively, are now in the care of their foster mother Francine. Della has to work through her issues, all while Suki deals with her own trauma and tries to make a living plan for the future of her and Della. While Fighting Words tells a story that is similar to many of those seen in other empowerment books, Fighting Words tells the story in such a way that conveys emotion. It conveys the struggles that Della and Suki are facing to the reader in such a way that makes them care about the two, as if they were your own friends or family facing the same struggles. I recommend Fighting Words to readers of all ages over maybe 12.
