Let me tell you: Renegades is my favorite superhero fiction book series ever. The plot itself is good: The two lead protagonists both have secrets to keep and are pretending to be someone they're not, which creates a dynamic that's both fun to read and oftentimes very funny. The power system is interesting, engaging, and somehow balanced, despite Adrian's power, and every single character is unique and badass in their own ways. The first book pulled me in hook, line, and sinker, which is why I was so utterly thrilled when I realized it was a trilogy and not a one-shot. I approached Archnemesis the same way I approached the 2nd season of Wednesday: Begging for it to be good, begging it to live up to its predecessor. And boy, like Wednesday Season 2, Archnemesis delivered. The story opens up with Nova again, who is masquerading as a superhero fighting for good within the crime-stopping organization known as "The Renegades." The other protagonist, Adrian, drops in not too long later. He's an actual Renegade, but he's posing as the "Sentinel," a crime-fighting vigilante who doesn't condone to Renegade rules. The two obviously have romantic tension, and the fact they're both keeping secrets at the same time while trying to act normal around each other and their teammates is simultaneously hilarious and endearing. While all of that's happening, the crime organization that Nova works for, the Anarchists, are plotting their revenge on the Renegades for taking them down all those years ago. Normally, I'd go over more of the plot, but that intro already sets up a lot of things to think about. The tense but friendly atmosphere because their friends are still oblivious to what they're hiding, and hilarious stress between Adrian and Nova as they each try to hide their secrets during conversations, too wrapped up in coming up with clever lies to notice each others'. The exposition is amazing; the plot itself is already a pretty good idea, and any good idea paired with wonderful execution is bound to work well. Also, the cover art looks phenomenal as well. The first book looked good, this one looks good, everything looks good. Recommended for fans of superhero fiction or sci-fi!
