Theodosia was six when her home country was invaded and her mother, the Fire Queen, was killed before her eyes. From then on, the Kaiser, the new ruler, appointed her the Ash Princess, a name and title to wear forever for the humiliation and shame. From then on, Theo has experienced relentless abuse from the Kaiser and his court. There seems to be no way out of this place, except when Theo recognizes one of her childhood friends as a servant. The two secretly meet for many days, passing on useful information. The boy encourages her to leave, but Theo cannot unless she has done one very important thing, to save the lives of hundreds. But which will she save, if the time comes: hers or theirs?
I recommend this book because it is a story of betrayal and trust, from cover to back. Theo endures betrayals and must commit one herself to survive and ensure that her friends will, too.
