What was Rosa Park like when she was young? When Rosa was young her family lived in her grandparent's farm, Pine Level in Alabama. Rosa's mother was a teacher and Rosa's father was a traveling woodworker. Rosa's mother passed the belief to have respect for herself and others to Rosa. It was the most important thing she said. When Rosa started school she loved it, however around this time Rosa learned a lesson; life could be dangerous for black people as some groups of white hated anybody else who wasn't white, who wasn't the same as them. Did that stop Rosa Park? No! In fact it made her angry to see people treated badly or differently just because of the color of their skin. One summer Rosa's mother took her to Montgomery. There she saw segregation. For example there were even different water fountains for "colored" and "white". The law even said that people could be treated differently just because of the color of their skin. Another example/law in city buses was that black people sat in the back while white people got to sit in the front. If a black person refused to move he/she/it would be arrested and put into jail. Rosa knew this was wrong, if people stood up then maybe things would change- for the better. How could things change if people refused to change? If things changed would all people be treated as an equal? I recommend " When Rosa Parks Went Fishing" because it explains Rosa Park's determination and fight for justice with vivid drawings and descriptive words.
