Sixteen years old Toni has always had the same fire dream for almost thirteen years. However this time, it's different because her close friend Betty is in it. She wakes up to find the orphanage burning, just like in her dreams yet this time it's in real life. Toni is considered one of the Sevens in the orphanage, the ones who are old and nearly adults. The matron, Mrs. Hazelton gives the Sevens a chance to find their relatives. Toni is given the choice to find her mother, who had left Toni behind to the orphanage. She had always pictured her mother as the one who hurt her but Toni's not sure whether it's memories or dreams. Toni rents a place to stay in Toronto, meeting Grady. Toni is happy because so far, she's already figured out her father's name (Mr. Ian Tyson), got a job and found a place to stay. During her job, she meets Ethan, who she seems to quarrel with whenever she sees him. Ethan thinks she's weird for mooning over her dad and teases her for it. The only problem is when she figures out that Ian isn't actually her father. Why did her mom abandon her? Who really is her mom? Will she ever meet her family? I really recommend this masterpiece of a novel. Shattered Glass is a story about the journey of an orphan finding out about the world and finding the truth of her identity.
