🌟 Recommendation Details

This book is about an old woman named Lillian, who tells the story of how black men and women became equals to white men and women. She tells them through her memories. Her great-great grandparents Elijah and Sarah, being sold, to working for another bad man, to her great-grandparents voting. It goes on to how her uncle faced unfairness from other people, trying to stop him from voting, to her as a young girl, being chased by a mob of angry people, to those mobs setting fire to a cross on their lawn, because they want to vote. As Lillian sees these memories, she encourages a young man to vote. Then, she sees the funeral of a young 26 year old man in a peaceful protest, to the famous Selma Marches. Then, Lillian sees the memories of how the black people got more rights and freedom, all the way to the voting booth, where she touches the lever, and votes. I recommend this book because of how inspiring it is, the mix of collage and artwork in the illustration, and the history in Lillian's memories.
