(Sequel of Starters) The book starts off with Callie taking some sandwiches from an Ender, Eugenia to feed the Starter neighborhood. Unfortunately, the sandwiches get stolen by some desperate Starters. After the chaotic destruction of the body bank Prime, Callie finds out she still isn't completely safe. Through her chip, the escaped mastermind of the body bank called the Old Man controls her mind and body temporarily. Later, Callie goes to the mall to meet up with her friend Micheal and her brother, Tyler. She is warned by Old Man of danger when suddenly a strange explosion occurs in the mall. She's protected by a mysterious guy who is later found out to be the genius and son of the Old Man called Hyden. After the explosion, a detective interrogates everyone who was at the scene which includes Callie. Her chip is allowing Enders to enter her body and hurt the people she loves; however if she takes it out, flashes of her fathers memories will also follow. With Enders continuously trying to find ways to experiment on Starter with chips (called Metals), Callie will have to make her choice fast. As Callie, Micheal and Hyden navigate their paths to safety, she'll have to choose between her loved ones and the truth. Will Callie be able to take out her chip? What is this system hiding? I highly recommend this thriller in a dystopian set world because it's depicted with mystery, suspense and a dash of romance which all compacts to the perfect novel for anyone seeking a long read.
