Jessamine Luxton lives in a cottage with her father, Thomas Luxton. Her father works as an apothecary. He is obsessed with a garden full of strange, toxic plants, and Jessamine is never allowed to go near or inside it. One day, a strange, mysterious boy named Weed arrives. He's secretive and seems to have a knack that is out of this world. Over time, Jessamine falls in love with Weed, and he finally opens up to her: he has a secret — he can communicate with plants. They have their own life, their own secrets, their own personalities. And the ones in the poison garden are dangerous. But Jessamine isn't the only one who knows Weed's powers. As the two of them start their dynamic relationship, Jessamine's father starts to try and use Weed for his own gain . . . This book is a good read for somebody who likes romance or fantasy books. The plot of the story is really great, but readers will find that they may become frustrated when the plot seems to drag a little, especially at the beginning. Overall, this book is a great to try out — and if you like it, you can continue reading the series.
