In the book "Lost Boy, Lost Girl", written by John Bul Dau, one of children who is from a Dinka tribal village, is about the perspectives of both himself and of his future wife, Martha, two lost children who are amongst the millions of children affected by the dangerous conditions of South Sudan. John, himself, is the youngest child of his mother and ventures through the dangers of Sudan, which was and still is rife with war and famine. In his journey to escape the dangers, he endures through hunger and exhaustion in the African safari whilst also encountering human brutality and violence. On the other hand, his wife, Martha, is from the larger city of Juba who, too, has had to brave the hardships of famine and civil war that was abundant throughout the young country. I would highly recommend this book because of its tale of survival of two, real people, who do not have the privileges that we have in the west. Additionally, this story of two South Sudanese children is also unique in its inclusion of the rarely discussed female perspective of the hardships of South Sudan. Therefore, I would highly recommend "Lost Boy, Lost Girl: Escaping Civil War in Sudan."
