When You Reach Me is about a young highschool girl named Miranda and takes place in New York in 1979. Miranda is an average teenager with fluctuating friendships and styles, but her life mysteriously changes when her particularly close friend named Sal starts drifting away from her. Since then, Miranda started receiving mysterious notes in her workplace and clothes, and Miranda was unable to decipher the writer. However, Miranda realizes the significance of the notes when she discovers that the writer came from the future and needed her help to save someone's life.
I recommend this book because it is mind boggling. The plot is unpredictable and interesting with wholesome character development within it too. Time is an important theme in this book, applying to the present, past, and future of Miranda's friends, and the author's wonderful use of foreshadowing ties together the future timeline perfectly with Miranda's present timeline. When You Reach Me is a unique and deep story that can be enjoyed by many.
When You Reach Me

Winner of the 2010 John Newbery Medal By sixth grade, Miranda and her best friend, Sal, know how to navigate their New York City neighborhood. But things start to unravel. Sal gets punched by a kid on the street for what seems like no reason, and he shuts Miranda out of his life. The apartment key that Miranda's mom keeps hidden for emergencies is stolen. And then a mysterious note arrives. The notes keep coming, and Miranda slowly realizes that whoever is leaving them knows things no one should know. Each message brings her closer to believing that only she can prevent a tragic death. Until the final note makes her think she's too late. Reason for Recommendation: This book is very interesting in exploring timetravel, and also shows the power of trust and friendship.
