The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is about a Native American teenage boy named Junior who lives a difficult life on a Native American reservation due to medical conditions that he dealt with when he was younger. His family is broken and unsupportive and his peers are bullies, leaving him with little to nothing to cope. Junior faces bullying, violence, and humiliation as he tries to find where he belongs.
I recommend this book because it showcases Native American culture that most people otherwise would not know about, and it also is written like a diary, like a retelling of Junior's life. The book is based on real events and has interesting art throughout the book of cartoons that the main character illustrated. I think the book is eye-opening and immersive to Junior's culture.

Junior is an aspiring cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. He decides to take control of his future, transferring away from his school on the reservation in order to attend an all-white high school nearby. The book theme is the attempts to break away from the life we were born into.
In " The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" speaks for many immigrant kids to the United States. Based on the author Sherman Alexie's true experience, the novel is able to give a raw reality and connect for others in his shoes right now. The story is truly able to break down what it felt like at such a young age to take control of his own life and what he wanted at that moment; while many individuals aren't able to have a say in their futures.
