Jamie and Scott Tyler are twin brothers. Unbeknownst to them, their destiny is intertwined with three others. Colton Bane and Kyle Hovey, both agents of the Nightrise Corporation, are waiting outside a theater in Reno, Nevada. Their mission: to abduct the twins performing a magic act there. Meanwhile, on stage, Jamie and Scott are performing a mind-reading trick which was, in fact, real. Jamie and Scott possess the innate power of telepathy, not only with each other but also the ability to compel others to obey their commands and read their thoughts. Don White, their foster parent, decided to sell them off to the Nightrise Corporation, but Jamie and Scott escape and are pursued. With the help of a woman, Jamie made a successful escape, but Scott got captured. Upon awakening, Jamie learns his rescuer is Alicia, whose clairvoyant son was also captured by Nightrise. Peering into Colton Bane's mind reveals Silent Creek Prison. With assistance from John Trelawny, Alicia's boss, Jamie gets intentionally arrested under a false identity and placed in Silent Creek. Jamie tries to use his powers but learns that a pervasive magnetic field nullifies them within the prison. The supervisor finds out and tells Bane that he has found a Gatekeeper. Meanwhile, Jamie doesn't realize that the second gate has opened, and Richard Cole is rushing to Matt right now, crying for help. An ally of the Five recognizes the tattoo on Jamie's shoulder and, with the help of his tribal people, breaks him out of the prison. However, Jamie got shot in the shoulder in the process. His perilous escape marks only the beginning. I highly recommend this book as Anthony Horowitz is the master of suspense. Horowitz masterfully weaves suspense throughout, crafting cliffhangers on nearly every page that will keep adventure lovers captivated.
