The story "The Talented Clementine" features a little girl named Clementine, who is in third grade and has become frustrated with her inability to present her talents. Currently, the school will hold an event called "Talent Palooza," which raises funds to take students on a field trip in the late spring. Her best friend, Margaret, has a long list of very interesting talents that range from A to Z and is ready to display some of her "medium-size" talents. However, Clementine is sure she cannot find anything that she would want others to see on stage. More than that, she is convinced that she doesn't possess any sort of talent or skill. In her increasing panic and desperation to find a role for the show, Clementine keeps herself from being on stage by creating an excuse to have someone else represent her or by hiding in the principal's office. However, after an emergency situation arises backstage shortly before the show starts, Clementine steps up and finds out what her talent really is; it is her attention to the minutest detail and her ability to solve problems with it. As a result, Clementine becomes the hero of the event, as well as having gained the self-confidence she always needed.
