Issy only knows her name and that she is afraid of fire and burning; she was abandoned as a newborn and adopted by the crafty man in the hamlet. Issy is determined to find her identity despite being teased by superstitious peasants who fear witchcraft. Is she similar to Old Demdyke, the most evil witch of them all? Or does she resemble the businesswoman and healer Iohan a-Style? Even the Parson is unsure about whether to punish or redeem her. Issy has to make a decision for herself as the Witch Finder's forces relentlessly approach.
I recommend this book because it is a compelling book about the witchcraft trials through the perspective of Issy, an honest and uncertain woman who confronts evil with courage.
