This book tells the story of Sonnie's great-grandmother when she was seven years old, during a time when Black people were enslaved and forced to work. Sonnie's great-grandmother escaped from the plantation with a blanket that carried her family's history. Later, she had a daughter who was sold into slavery, but the daughter took the blanket with her. The blanket continued to be passed down through generations until it reached the present family. I chose this book because it shows how enslaved girls never lost hope and faith, and how they kept believing in freedom and a better future.
