📖 Among the Enemy

The book Among the Enemy by Peterson Haddix is the sixth and penultimate book in the series "Shadow Children". It is a book about Matthais, an illegal third child (or shadow child) who went to a school who actually harbored third-children. Along with him are his friends who he grew up with after he got abandoned at birth. One day when the school was raided by the Population Police(those who caught illegal third children), the trio and the entire school were taken as prisoners, being taken by truck to an unknown location. Luckily, by using their intelligence, the three managed to escape the truck, fleeing afterward. Since Alia was injured when the truck crashed(how they escaped) and Percy was shot by the Population Police, they and Mathhias had to hide-out in a cabin. As he hid his friends in the cabin, he went to go seek help from his friend Mr. Talbot, the leader of the rebels (those fighting against the government), but when he got back with Mr. Talbot's wife (a doctor who could help Alia and Percy), he got caught in a firefight between the rebels and a few Population Police members. During the confusion, Matthias mistakenly rescued a Population member named Tiddy by bringing him into a car. Tiddy, thinking Matthias really risked his life for his, brought Matthias back to the Population Police Headquarters, hailing him as his savior. Matthias could only play along to not get caught, but he eventually found out many third-children who were his old friends were actually working undercover in the HQ. Since he had the most influence out of all of them(he literally slept in a room next to the commander), they tasked Matthias with spying on the commander for them. Could he complete this dangerous task without getting caught?
