This book is a true and vital story of the life of the German Youth during the reign of Nazi Germany from 1930s to 1945. Throughout the course of the book, several former Hitler Youth and BDM members were interviewed about their times and troubles in the Hitler Youth. The start of the Hitler Youth began during the early stages of the Nazi Party. An emerging politician named Hitler was gaining popularity for his solutions to Germany's crushed economy and poor state. One of the solutions is to use their Youth to fuel their mission of conquering the world and getting rid of "non-Aryans". This master plan began in the classrooms, where all material was changed to adapt to Nazi ideology. This change from learning to propaganda inspired many young children to join the Hitler Youth, thinking it was great for the future of their country. Training in the Hitler Youth mainly focused on physical strength, preparing the men for war, and being propagandized to fit Nazi ideology. Eventually, as the kids in the Hitler Youth became older, they had to overcome a series of harsh training and complex tests in order to enter the "regular" army or the "prestigious" SS(a notorious and brutal paramilitary force). Despite millions being persuaded to fight and devote their life to the Nazis, many young Germans didn't buy into the Nazi's deceit and decided to resist the Nazi's by spreading Anti-Nazi leaflets. I recommend this book because it contains a historically precise peek into how many young Germans not only were manipulated by the Nazis but also resisted them.
