🌟 Recommendation Details

Achebe's 1958 novel, Things Fall Apart, provides commentary on the colonization of Nigeria through the fictional character of Okonkwo. The story relays how proud Okonkwo is of his community, the Igbo, in southeastern Nigeria. Achebe contrasts the once-thriving community with its native traditions and beliefs with the abrupt cultural erasure following the European colonization of Nigeria. I recommend this novel as an excellent representation of history from an authentic source. With this novel, Achebe is able to highlight the negative consequences of colonialism while also exploring the themes of identity, power, and perseverance.
