Franny and Zooey is the story of two siblings, Franny and her brother Zooey. The first section of the novel explores Franny's mental health issues, which begin while she is visiting her boyfriend at college. However, in the second section, Franny begins to heal with the help of Zooey. I recommend this novel due to its exploration of mental health, discovering one's identity, and learning about character growth. Much like Holden Caulfield in J.D. Salinger's other famous novel, The Catcher in the Rye, Franny and Zooey are both complex characters who don't necessarily fit into the characteristics of the typical protagonists, especially the trend of protagonists being likable and "good" people.
