Roy Eberhardt has moved so often he has lost track of how many times he has changed schools. After moving from Montana to Florida's Gulf Coast, he befriends Beatrice (Brie Larson) and her brother. The siblings show Roy their hideaway, where they secretly take care of a flock of wild owls. When they learn that a restaurant will be built where the owls live, the three decide to enlist the help of a local policeman to save the birds.

Hoot is about a young boy named Roy who is new to the town of Coconut Cove and follows his journey as he makes new friends and learns about the endangerment of an owl's nest. Roy befriends two eccentric siblings who inform him of the unfortunate fate that awaited the owls. Roy, having moved from the rural and nature filled state of Montana to the suburbs of Florida, shared his passion for nature with his newfound friends. As just three kids attempting to stand up against a whole corporation, their hopes of saving the owls were grim. Would Roy and his new friends be able to save the owls?
I recommend this book because it is fun and interesting and brings awareness to the need for people to care for nature. The book showcases that all nature, no matter how big or how small should be cared for, especially against the corruption of large corporations just looking to make money. Hoot is a wonderful story with a cute storyline and is a great way to educate readers about the struggles of owls and countless other natural organisms in real life.
