The novel The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket is the first book in the series "A Series of Unfortunate Events". The story is about the Baudelaire siblings; Sunny(infant) Klaus(12), and Violet(14), three intelligent kids who, when playing at the beach one day, were told by their wealthy parent's family banker Mr.Poe that their parents died in a house fire that also brought down their expensive mansion. Mr. Poe was also the executor of the Baudelaire couple's will, and he decided that it was best to take the kids to Count Olaf, an extremely distantly related cousin who lived in the same city. Since he was the family's banker, he would also oversee Violet's inheritance money(since she's the oldest) until she turns of age. The three kids, who have been living in luxury for all their lives, were surprised when they saw that Count Olaf's home was small and filthy. The three only had one bed and were also tasked to do extremely demanding chores every day. Worst of all, Count Olaf turned out to actually be an extremely evil, abusive, but clever person who planned to take Violet's inheritance money through tricky means. Could the kids escape this horrible person and guardian? I recommend this book because it is very adventurous and entertaining. It also teaches readers many lessons, especially how much evil some people in this world hold.
小说《糟糕的开端》(The Bad Beginning)是雷蒙尼·史尼奇(Lemony Snicket)所著系列《波特莱尔大遇险》(A Series of Unfortunate Events)的第一本书。

Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire were enjoying a day at the beach when Mr. Poe, a banker, delivers terrible news. Their parents have died in a tragic fire, leaving a fortune behind. Mr. Poe promises the three kids will have a guardian to watch over them, but none of them expect that guardian to be a distant relative they've never heard of: Count Olaf? Count Olaf is cold, mean, and horrible --- his house is dirty and his heart is stone. The Baudelaires know that he's only agreed to take care of them for their parents' massive wealth and fortunes left behind. How will the three children escape Count Olaf? And what will happen when they try and fail?
I recommend this book because it is an exciting and thrilling story to read. This book is perfect for those who love mystery and adventure.
