One winter morning, Peter woke up to find it was snowing outside. After he ate breakfast, he went outside. The snow was piled up to make a path for walking. His feet crunched in the snow as he walked. He dragged his feet slowly to make tracks. Then he found a stick to make tracks with. He smacked a snow-covered tree. The snow plopped right on top of Peter's head. He wanted to play a snowball fight with the big kids, but he knew he wasn't old enough, so he made a snowman and some snow angels. He pretended to be a mountain climber climbing a big mountain of snow, then he slid all the way down. He made a snowball and tucked it into his snowsuit, then he walked into his home. He told his mother about what he did while she took off his soggy socks. Before he slept, he checked his pocket, it was empty! He was very sad. He dreamed about the sun melting the snow while he was sleeping. When he woke up, the snow was still falling! He called his friend after breakfast and went out into the snow.
Reason for Recommendation: This is an entertaining book that teaches young readers about what you could do in the winter when it snows. It tells a story about a kid who has a fun time in the snow. This book won the 1963 Caldecott Medal.
