🌟 Recommendation Details

"All Quiet on the Western Front" tells the story of a group of German soldiers during World War I. The novel begins with a description of Captain Katczinsky, who led a group of recruits, most of whom joined the army at the age of 18 or 19, in search of food. He always found a way to collect all kinds of food. Several members of the group were high school classmates, enlisted into the army by their teacher after an passionate speech. They were getting closer to death day by day, and their fear of war was growing day by day. In the battle, they learned to observe and identify dangers, but amidst the smoke and gunfire, the worldview they had been taught crumbled entirely. Though they adapted resiliently to the war, they often cried sadly over the loss of their former lives. I recommend this novel because it vividly portrays the brutality and bloodshed of war, as well as the pain and despair of young people whose humanity is shattered by its destruction. All Quiet on the Western Front uses satire to expose the absurdity and mercilessness of war.
