Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson is a must-read classic. The book is set in the 1700s when seventeen-year-old Jim Hawkins lives with his parents at a remote inn near the Bristol Channel. After Billy Bones, a former pirate who also lived at the inn, dies, a blind beggar named Pew and his comrades ransack the inn, looking for a packet including books and a map Billy kept in his chest showing where the infamous pirate Flint buried treasure. Before they could reach it, Jim and his mother had already escaped with the packet to a squire's home, where they and a doctor excitedly flipped through the book. The squire quickly decided that he, the physician, and Jim would go on a voyage to find the gold, unaware of the dangers inevitably heading his way. I recommend this book for its grasping plot twists which explore the themes of loyalty, and even the betrayal of mutiny that quickly turns deadly.
